"If you're driving 10 to 12,000 miles a year, you're gonna fill up once a month. You're gonna go to the gas station 12 times this year." -- I think your math is off. The tank capacity in a TDI Jetta is 14.5g. So, 1K miles / 14.5g = 69mpg. These vehicles do get good mpg, but not THAT high.
2009 Jetta TDI Sportwagen 6spd Manual. 6 CD changer, Satellite radio, Ipod adapter, 10 Hi-fidelity speakers, Driver and TC lumbar support, heated seats, powered sun-roof, 17" rims. 330 miles on 1/2 tank (7 gal) = !47mpg and I don't have a light foot. Had to get a radar detector as I keep forgetting I am not in Germany anymore! Better handling than my 2001 Euro-specced Golf IV which got 30MPG at 130mph! Going for a long trip this weekend. Excited to see what mileage I get! Love my Golf/Jetta!
I know that, the price of fuel is not relevant. I would love to see how much the yanks would weep when their fuel does hit $18 a gallon, i saw how crazy they went when it hit less than $5. Typical of the yanks, they think that any other country outside the US is "one" country. Do you even know where Europe is? Just because I'm from the UK doesn't mean I'm from England by the way, how very stereotypical of you!
this test isn't for sierra leone, dummy. this was done in the u.s., using our gas prices. it's not like we're going to buy one of these cars and bring it to sierra leone.
Highest gas prices are in Seirra Leone at $18 a gallon, ours is cheap at just under $6, incest? er you're from America which has one of the highest incest rates in the world, i'm not sure you win, i'd still rather get 82 MPG
"50 MPG phenomenal" what? Europe has cars that do close to double that, even my car does 74 MPG and the VW Golf does 88 MPG, Mazda 2 does 84 MPG, Citroen C1 85 MPG, mini diesel 88 MPG, VW polo 87 MPG, Seat ibiza 87 MPG shall i continue?

great for you. you also have the highest gas prices, a history replete with dictators, incest, and bigotry, and the french. we win.
