You should make a big one that has a swing, that way you could have the kids swing and bring up water. Win-Win situation!

Yep, right now I think he looses much of the gain this could make because of a relative small pendulum, too much is absorbed in friction and such. Plus its easier pushing a longer pendulum at a small angle than a short one at almost 180 degrees. Efficiency follows with that...

the useful power is:

flow rate: 20 l/min = 1/3 l/s

mass rate: 1/3 kg/s (1 liter of water has a mass of 1 kg)

potential energy increase: 1/3 kg/s x 9.81 m/s^2 x 3m = 9.81 W

Hi 'lookatthewholething' I am Chaplain with the Catering Corps, Dad's Army R.M.P.T.A. section. We Police the Kitchens!

A nice heavy ten tonne pendulum, preferably two swinging in counter oscillation to balance structural loads..blah.

The pivot is sprung and damped with knitted steel sock dampers inside the springs. Result the pivot box gets hot enough to grill burgers, boil kettles,etc.

Guests asked to give the pendulum a gentle shove now and then. Conservation Laws need scrapping! NOW!
