i find it relatively easy to bring the foot into the hip, and to bring up the knee. but i find that the leg with the knee up, has the foot turned out (like an external rotation). also the knee tends to want to lean outwards making it difficult to reach back with the arm.
does that make sense, and do you have any suggestions?
