@1214gaia...i agree,,,Tony did a very poor job elucidating the diversity of the L.A food culture...it seems as if he and the producers of this episode attempted to placate all of the false L.A. stereotypes, rather than reveal the astonishing diversity of cuisine in the City of Angels.....
"beer, vodka and cigarettes"... amen to that, except for the cigarettes, since I'm not a smoker. can't argue with the first two though - they are an essential part of any sensible person's diet :)))
"it's tough to be working in someone else's kitchen; but in this case I'm not working - so it's not that bad" loool I loved that part; at least he's honest...
@1214gaia There's no way they could cover the gastronomic scene of LA in one show. Mexican, Korean, fusion, fast food, health food, are all multi episode themes.
Ha, the only way he survived LA was spending most of the trip with Mark Peel! I have to say as a native Angeleno, though, that there is truly amazing Mexican food to be had there...too bad he didn't find it.
He was a heavy smoker when A Cook's Tour was filmed. If you check out his latest No Reservations episodes, you'll notice he has packed on some pounds since he quit smoking after becoming a family man.
