Hailed as absorbing, a must see, Oscar material and the best movie at SXSW, MINE is a feature-length, independent documentary about the essential bond between humans and animals, set against the backdrop of one of the worst natural disasters in modern U.S. history: Hurricane Katrina.

  • is this real

  • Sadly, the situation in Katrina concerning the plight of the pet owners is absolutely real. The director was part of the relief efforts: that's where she captured the footage for this documentary.

  • Please give their pets back to their original families. Yes, you fell in Love with their pet, but it's not yours; it has a family that couldn't bring their pet. You can adopt another beautiful pet from the shelter. You would be saving another life. Do the Right Thing. Thanks. <3

  • @jessesgirl2005 Oh ya gotta put h t t p : before that.

  • @ycatrcat Here's the story on Jessie getting JJ back at last. :)

  • Randy Turner the lawyer in the movie is a horrible person. He is no animal lover. What should the woman have done? Left her mother in a wheel chair in the house and rescued the dog? She had to carry her mother in the wheel chair. The dog survived. The only reason she didn't get the dog back was because she didn't have money for a lawyer. If I adopted a Katrina dog and the true owner wanted it back, I'd give it back. I'd be very sad but I'd do the right thing. Randy works at Turner & McKenzie

  • This hurts my heart to see!

  • @songnight I don't think that all of the people who were adopting were doing it for an ego boost. We had thought about it, but our lease wouldn't allow any more pets than the ones we already had. The way we had understood it at the time, the dogs were coming from people who had in a lot of cases not survived. Obviously now we see that wasn't the case, but at the time it was thought that these were animals that really had no place else to go. We just love dogs!

  • @ycatrcat After they ran off with the dog. Jesse got a lawyer who agreed to help him pro bono and nine months later, Jesse got J.J. back.

  • @songnight

I thought It said that the new owners of J.J. ran off with the dog after he got a lawyer and was about to get him back. Did that happen or did Jesse really get his pup back?
