  • Well, it had to happen; picked a 101E up about a month ago. It's absolutely pristine, and not the victim of an 11-meter "Golden Screwdriver" treatment. MINTY it is!!!

So I just got back on the air after 33 years away, I know I've missed a beat, but that 101 still blows people away like it did back in the day. It gets fantastic reports, both on SSB and CW.

    Nice.

Real radios have knobs you can touch and tweak, and that SWEET glow from their tubes.

    NIce.

    Thanks for the viddy!

    Nice.

  • @911fever Glad to hear it! Cant say that I not jealous regarding the "mint factor" of your rig. Anyway, you made a wise choice. So far there is no place on this planet that I cant contact with the FT and a simple dipole !

  • Ahhh, the old reliable FT-101. I still have the same rig I bought in 1978. After all those years I have never replaced the sweep tubes and it STILL puts out over 100 watts SSB on 40 meters!

  • Brings back great memories of studying to get my Ham Ticket back in 1975 and then wondering how a 21 year old kid would ever save up enough money @ $2.75/hr to buy one of these but I finally did and it's been a great hobby for many years.

    Thanks for the memory!

  • Me trae muchos recuerdos, fui radioaficionado hace muchos años, y el radio FT101 fue mi primer y único radio, me trae nostalgia ver este video, conseguir los tubos originales era muy dificil, gracias por subir este video. HK3PGC

  • Always coveted the FT101's and 901's in the 70's as a child. Always been a Yaesu fan. I didn't know about the 101TT :)

Thanks for the vid and a really interesting channel

  • Ahhhhh,...the desire to own one of those classic Yaesu radios. The FT-101E would be my choice even for this new ham,...next to my more modern FT-950! I'm a Yaesu guy all the way!

  • i agree cbers think power power power i have seen many fts turned into parts boxs if anything is left that is

  • @kkoeery True. However, FT's have suffered a much greater casualty rate from the CB crowd than anyone else.

  • @Longstreet77 Ditto !

  • yea well ive seen hams do some pretty good hack jobs

  • I purchased new from Harrison Radio NYC as my graduation present from RCA Institutes in 1974. Never pealed the plastic off face panel. I worked for RCA Home Study School tp pay for tuition and saved what was left. Peter, WB2SGT
