Ivo Meirelles and the bateria of Mangueira 2010

Ivo Meirelles, President of Mangueira, gets carried away with emotion by the bateria of his samba school in Rio carnival. Filmed in the parade of champions, Rio carnival 2010.

Clips from the second half of Mangueira's parade, with the bateria in the Recu (second box), up to their exit from the box. The bateria were dressed as prisoners with the directors dressed as military policemen. The whole bunch of 300 or so drummers were surrounded by a portable cage, which makes the exit fro the box a particularly tricky piece of organisation. They can't afford to lose the beat - but this is Mangueira, I guess they can cope with just about anything. In carnival itself the bateria was almost running at the finish, with the cage up and running along with them.
