This was taken at Redwood National Park in northern California. This is my first shot at a backpacking video. I'm still learning the basics on shooting and editing. Enjoy!

Taken with a Canon Vixia HF200 camcorder with the external DM-100 microphone and edited with Sony Vegas Pro 8.

  • only problem with these hd cameras, is they become very shaky unless on a tripod. i get a headache when viewing them. ive noticed this with all these consumer grade cameras with hd.

  • definitely. they're extremely light, so there's not much mass to smooth out movements. although, you can do a very nice job with practice.

  • Good job. That was a nice peaceful video to watch. Just curious. It must of been a lot of extra hassle going back and forth on the stream for example to get your camera. :-) I'm thinking about getting a Canon HD camcorder myself. Anyhow..........thanks for the video. They are fun to watch. Keep them coming.

  • Thanks for the kind words. My HF 200 has been wonderful to use, though I'm no means an expert at camcorders.

  • Not too cold, but it was uncomfortable to stand in after a few minutes.

  • Next time, stop halfway across. Go back for the camera. Set it on the opposite shore. Go out and walk toward the camera.

  • Great video I cant believe its yor 1st!

  • Ive camped two seperate times at that exact spot where you crossed. The first time I went I had eaten some mushrooms and that was a load of fun. the second time my friends and I camped there on the last day of a week long trip through the area we dropped acid and watched the moon come up through the trees. but yeah man you can camp on gravel bars along redwood creek, you don't need to camp at elam or camp 44.

Great video. Hope to make it back around there soon.

  • If you're using one of the latest versions of Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio, then you should be able to import MTS files directly from the SDHC card via a card reader.

  • How do you import video from the hf200 to sony vegas ? can you make a tutorial or something?
