I will be making a USB PIC microcontroller board to read each individual 'gear' as a button, when the metal shaft on the main shaft rubs onto the aluminium tape positioned in the h pattern which then puts the microcontroller pin high and is registered as the gear button engaged.
This is for the driving simulator LFS
Price of parts, probably less than £10
Old Joystick = free
Plywood h pattern = free, offcuts
PIC = £4
etc...
Please note: this only has 4 of the 8 positions on it atm
