  • @ 1:37 the Zenith Space Command remote control.

It used no batteries...EVER! The remote control's buttons would mechanically strike various lengths of metal rods, creating a different audible metallic "tink" sound for each function selected. This beat the hell out of wired-remotes that needed cords running across a living room floor.

This system could be fooled by unintended frequencies though, like those by my baby cousin's toy made if he pushed it across the floor. But overall, it was a win!

  • At 2:32, I was anticipating that he would drop the F bomb.

    ***shatter*** Ah... FUCK!

  • Oops. I meant they were reluctant to get "color cameras". They did get them, but not as quickly as the others.

  • @georgef551 But didn't CBS have shows in color at least by 1965? I know Hogans Heroes (except the pilot episode) was broadcasted in color and the first season was 1965.

  • Error found:

Not everyone with a B&W TV could watch a color boradcast. For a short time, CBS refused to go with the color format the other stations were using, resulting in a useless picture for B&W sets. This might be the same reason CBS was reluctant to go color in the late '60's: RCA was their rival. NBC and RCA were coherts, and ABC went along with the ride. CBS got color, but from a Japaneese company, forgot which.
