I was present during this test.

The tree was not dry, (lets say it was medium) a greener tree would have still gone up but with a slower start.

If anything the test shows the effects of radiant heat and the fast buildup of smoke in a typical house.

No accelerants were used anywhere in the house.

The video is all too true, and the oil in a moist tree burns almost as well as a dry one. On Dec 13, 2002, I lost my sister, brother in law, and another young man as well from the result of a tree fire. Their entire apartment building burned down from a fire that started in their apartment. Lights are mostly made by untrained children in third world sweat shops. If you have to have a live tree, please don't put lights on it. The empty chairs at the table at holidays are hard to bear.

The moral of this isn't "turn the lights off when you're not home" It is make sure your tree is fresh and the lights are in good working condition. Even if this room was full of people when this happened all they could have done is run like hell and hope you get out alive
