Why is the second nock so much dimmer than the other one? Is it just because the battery is low?

So the cut piece of nock should only be open on one end?

be sure not to buy the Beacon brand, I got two of them and niether would turn off, I used a pair of pliers to turn one off and the other fell apart before it turned off, they are about $3.30 at sports authority but are crap.
