The 2011 San Mateo Maker Faire was a great success! So many wide-eyed kids (and adults) visited the element14 booth to witness a live taping of The Ben Heck Show, to see Ben Innes and the official unveiling of his stunning art installation piece as well as to see the culmination of the Great Global Hackerspace Challenge.

People also packed the innovation stage to hear electronics visionaries Mitch Altman, Jeri Ellsworth and Ben Heck discuss the future of education and the role that technology will play in it. The panel was moderated by Napa Valley educator Michele Dawson.

In this vid, we hear the closing comments and the panelists answer the question, "what is your hope for the future of education and technology."

  • Jeri AND Ben AND Mitch, is this like a dream tech/geek panel to answer questions or what ?

  • @jeriellsworth - In person, there seemed to be a pattern as you were preparing to speak, speaking, and when you stopped. I need to watch the full video to find it. It struck me that once the thought was formed and the speech began, the electrical activity (or different in the electrical activity) would cease. I remember there also being periods where you were anticipating the moderator asking you a question, and the activity would increase significantly. Great hack, saw the details video, thx!

  • @iancole Sorry for distracting you with the light bulb. lol

  • Jeri's EEG hack (the light bulb above her head) was awesome, but I had a really hard time paying attention to the talk (in person) since I kept watching the EEG colors as she was thinking or speaking...

The moderator didn't seem to know much about Jeri, Ben, or Mitch, and clearly wasn't asking questions that took advantage of their diverse expertise. The panel did well trying to be engaging given the questions, but that group has much more to say on education and innovation...

  • Wonderful insights from Mitch, Ben & Jeri!
