  • Very interesting blade and hilt. Very clear markings on the blade , someone may be able to identify their meaning , makers mark etc.Did not get a good look at the tip, if it is rounded , it may be an executioners sword. Appears the hilt is not the original , as it doesn't fit snugly against the ricasso.

  • yes it looks very interesting.

i dont think he has them anymore.

  • This looks to be a late 1800's Sudanese blade mounted in a Victorian-revival fantasy grip.

  • oh well done, i dont know much about them really!

  • Hum... Strange sword... But a good longsword i very balanced and not specially heavy. Age?

  • dont know how old, but yeh a bit strange!

  • @burgerandthebitts It seems at least an inherited/trophy blade or executioner's, tho it's missing the forbidding etchings of an executioner's. Those grooves indicate an intent to be very strong, but the balance appears to be quite off. To be honest, the clover-leaf look seems rather out of place with a blade that looks like that, it seems more too decorative than functional when the blade looks very functional, although the shine at 1:10 is very strange, almost like tin.

  • That looks like an old parade sword.:) I doubt the hilt and pommel are gold, not at that level of craftsmanship. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic old antique, but the hilt and pommel are most likely gilded.

  • im not a sword expert, but id have to say, that looks simaler to a scottish 2 hand, i love william wallace

  • Looks heavy

  • Blade looks original, late medieval, though I think the hilt is probably a C19th addition. Not at all un common for the Victorians to put hilts on earlier blades and try to pass them off as complete originals.

  • Doesnt' look like a sword of justice, it's thinner at the tip, those were not.

It's heavy, couple that with a huge impractical cross guard, and i think you have a ceremonial sword or a an old wallhanger.

  • have you weighed it? that could determine is it was parade or for actual fighting.

  • It looks ancient, i'd say just roman conquest maybe, but thats just a guess (a very uneducated guess) The crossguard looks absolutly nothing like anything ive ever seen. It's not viking or saxon, maybe something irish. Just guessing. Or I could be completely wrong, which is usually the case when I try to make myself sound clever.
