James Kalm combines a couple of exhibitions that have yet to find a slot in the roster. Dennis Oppenheim is a stalwart of the Soho art community, a participant in Land and Body Art. This show at Janos Gat Gallery features proposals for large scale public works that hover somewhere between sculpture and architecture. Mitchell-Inness & Nash presents Allan DArcangelo Paintings 19621982. DArcangelo (1930-1998) is one of the greatest if under recognized Pop masters. This is his first New York retrospective since 1979. Employing images from everyday life and the media, DArcangelo melded a simplified directness with an abstract sensibility that achieves the quality of high-speed American icons. The pictures often depicting highways signage combined with pinup cheesecake.

  • when it comes to recent Oppenheim work you can almost feel the disappointment of many of his erstwhile admirers, but i think he's great. No "thanks Kate"? I guess the M-I&N staffer would have been confused...

  • Hey, they don't call these half-assed productions for nothing.

  • warhols philosophy, A to B and back again is also a good read, very funny. the warhol diaries are great too if your a fan. Also, Victor Bockris wrote a good warhol book:)

  • Sorry, but that marilyn painting was made the same year as Warhol's....but thanks so much for the show...you were right in saying he was lesser known...I had no idea he existed...great stuff, too.

  • and jasper johns was not so sure that warhol was that great...(I just finished popism.)

  • Thanks James Kalm.

    Best-

  • That swarm piece sucks. reminds me of bad art made by some of the females who don't get it in my undergraduate class

  • The piece at 7.26. is impressive.

  • thank you so much! for introducing D'Arcangelo to me...I had no idea he existed. I think your right on with the comment on his work having a naivete. and lol at the guy at the end who looked completely unamused

  • oppenheim rules!!
