Here is a video of me pointing at a light pole that we saw a thermal anomoly using an infrared camera. There appeards to be a short or some other bad connection inside the light pole. The power of thermal imaging is clearly demonstrated since that would never have been discovered.
They arent cheap. The one used here is an Agema 570 which goes for around $30,000 USD. Probably cheaper used. I also use a Mikron 6800 pro that sells for $38,000 USD. Fluke has a line of lower end IR cameras that are decent that start around $15,000 or so. You get what you pay for.
