A video comparing the guitar solos of kirk hammett and joe satriani.

just before Metallica was to record its first album, Kill 'Em All. At the time Hammett was taking private guitar lessons from now famous Joe Satriani..Hammett is one of the better-known students of guitarist and instructor Joe Satriani. In 2003, he was ranked 11th in the Rolling Stones "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Joe "Satch" Satriani (born on July 15, 1956, in Westbury, New York, U.S.) is an American guitarist and former guitar instructor. His self-released debut album, Not of This Earth in 1986 opened the way to a world of instrumental rock music in a pop-dominated world at that time.[1]

Influenced heavily by Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck,[2] Joe Satriani often incorporates a warm sound of guitar with a dominant blues and rock tone. Since 1990, he has used his own signature guitar, the Ibanez JS Series, which is widely sold in stores.[3] Joe Satriani also has a signature series amplifier, the Peavey JSX.

In 1988, Joe Satriani was recruited by Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger as lead guitarist for Jagger's first solo tour.[4] Later, in 1994, Satriani was also asked to be a lead guitarist for Deep Purple which he ultimately turned down due to contract issues.[2] Satriani has also worked with a wide range of guitarists from many styles, including Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, and Robert Fripp through the annual G3 Jam Concerts.[1]

G3 is an almost annual live music show and concert tour featuring three select guitarists of the generation; hence its name. It was created by guitarist Joe Satriani in 1996. Since its inception G3 has featured many guitarists including: Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Robert Fripp, Paul Gilbert, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Adrian Legg and many other special guests, including Tony MacAlpine, Johnny Hiland, Steve Lukather, Steve Morse, Chris Duarte, Andy Timmons, Neal Schon, Gary Hoey, Brian May, Billy Gibbons, Johnny A, George Lynch, Patrick Rondat, and Eric Sardinas.

Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981.[1] Metallica has become one of the most commercially successful musical acts of recent decades, and are considered one of the "Big Four" pioneers of thrash metal, along with Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth. The band has sold more than 90 million records worldwide,[2][3] including 57 million albums in the United States alone.[4][5]

  • I'm sure Kirk would laugh at being compared to Joe. There is, nor should there be a comparison. They are both excellent musicians with totally different styles. I would also bet that Kirk understands that as far as technique and versatility, Joe Satriani is one of the best in the world, not to be compared with anyone.

  • i wonder what's your next vid, myb Dimebag VS Johnny Cash? -.-'

  • @XXXGLOCXXX hahahaha yeah offcourse...good joke...you have good taste of humor...

  • @laiholapso ook.........and what this could mean?

  • Kirk makes noise.Joe makes music

  • @dyazRO it's irrelevant, I don't go to the burger king and ask for a mc flurry either.

  • @MYNAMEISJOHNIS yet there are way more people who know who kirk is. i think they both sound pretty shitty

  • Hard to compare, they have really different styles, but one thing is sure. A member of Metallica is just as much a master as Joe. Theyre both just as much masters, but theyre playing in completly different leauges. Is it about how hard it is? Is it about how good is sounds? Because Theyre good at different things and people will have different opinions about what music the prefer.

Good video though, alot of good solos from both of them ;)

  • What kind of comparison is THIS?

    -_____-

I mean I could understand Satriani and someone else like Steve Vai but not Kirk...

  • Satriani is definitely the better of the two, and one of the greatest guitarists and innovators in musical history. I love Metallica, but the winner will always be Satriani.

  • @XXXGLOCXXX

    Agreed. Kirk is better.
