I've had that same experience with the snapping noise caught it in my vid to. And needless to say the thunder was loud. Awesome catch by the way.

I don't know how close that is, but I've had one closer. One hit RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from my house. Only about 160 meters away, it was SOO loud.

@ohiostormchasers the next day i drove around looking for what the strike possibly hit and couldnt find anything. thinking it was much further behind the pole then it looks on tape but not sure.

ya.. That snap was likely something emitting a spark. Im guessing it hit a power line?

@hbcali20 dont know what it hit. power went out for just a few mins. not real long. i did feel a static shock when the lightning hit, thats how close it was.
