When all is said and done, Orr barely beats out Gretzky for the greatest to ever pick up a hockey stick. His natural understanding of the game and ability to convert that into consistent dominance and finesse seemed almost mind-boggling.

A note about the ice today being better. Not necessarily so. The rinks are so warm today people wear short sleeves. Back then you could see your breath in a rink. Orr was crazy though. How many other players could you find so many highlights of them playing goalie. The best ever!

To Nadleh
I really don't care what you may think.....
We all have our own opinions & our favorite players........Mine being Orr...
But, I must say I haven't seen any comments on this page quite as entertaining as yours!
I must say though, you've got a sharp mind........
Right, LMAO

Gretzky waited behind the net for the puck...Right and that is what makes the greatest player of all time less than Orr. However I take anything with a grain of salt from someone who cannot even spell Gretzky's name right. Both players were great in their own right and I am sure if you put them in a room together, that would be the topic of their conversation of what JBergen thinks....

I agree with you. Hockey is something about the past. Today, its all about players off the boats from Europe and they want to score that perfect goal. Take Kovalev for example.

Its ridiculous how fast he was, for what equipment and more than likely poor ice (compared to now) that he had to deal with. Now the majority of hockey players just care about their pay checks, where as he had a hard time actually admitting he couldnt play anymore, he couldnt care less about the pay check.

We need not disparage other players. NHLers are the very best athletes on the planet. The NHL has had mind boggling superb players over the years. That said----I agree, Orr was the very best. After 1000 comparisons and all the debate subdues----Orr's PLUS / MINUS numbers are simply overwhelming. Annual leaders compile a +50. Orr's average per season was much higher than that ! Orr was a +1 per game on average for his career !
Unreal.

Anyone out there in You Tube land who still believe that imposter #99 was the greatest player of all time, watch this video, including the goal in the corner behind
the goal line (I still don't believe it went in!) against Montreal and the defensive acrobatics to stop the puck from getting in the net. 5 Orr's would always slaughter 5 Gretzky's hands down! Thanks for the memories Bobby!
