Big update!
Took Dougie to a fun night with Ross-Shire riding club on Wednesday night. Such good fun thought Dougal was a psycho. Bucking and taking off and just as high as a kite. Had a rather marvellous fall off him and did a rather interesting acrobatic and managed to land on my feet, haha. It was a great night, we did a jumping competition, games and spooky jumps [though those didn't go quite as well, haha] and even if he was a bit of a nut job, he really enjoyed himself! Due to torrential rain mum didn't get any videos and only a couple of not vair good pics.
Had Pony Club summer camp this Friday to Sunday. Woah. Best camp yet.
Friday: Had flatwork in the morning, and he went BEAUTIFULLY. Really good lesson, got loads out of it. He bucked me off, however. He threw a bit of a hissy towards the end. At the very end he had a bit of a meltdown and just went mental, rearing and doing really, really scary bucks. Mum had stopped videoing at this point though. But he went really well apart from that, his flatwork has come on loads. Just got to work on him getting has back end in gear!
In the afternoon we had cross country. Wow, Dougal FLEW! Again, he bucked me off. He saw some other horses in another part of the course and decided he wanted to join them. Did a vertical rear, leapt through the air like some mad lippizan horse and then launched into an extremely impressive bucking fit. I literally got catapulted off and Dougal went galloping off, still bucking, haha. One of the lassies in the other group jumped off and grabbed him for me. But no, had great fun on the course. He was an absolute star. Only thing he didn't want to do was the drop into the water. Went up it fine and dandy, but not down it! Everything else he was flying over. Bucking loooads and he was very strong and keen, but he was definitely having fun!
Saturday: Did working hunter style jumps in the morning. One large bucking fit at the start, but once he got it all out his system he went really, really well, as you will see in the video. Absolutely flying over the jumps. Haven;t jumped that big on him before but he was loving it. He jumps so much better over the bigger jumps, he actually uses himself. He was a really, really good boy.
In the afternoon we had flatwork again and he went really nicely in this as well. (: Though again, had a few bucking fits here and there as he was tired and decided he should have a break. :L
Sunday: We had a one day event today, the whole pony club!
Dressage was shocking. He was spooking at the dressage boards and the bell, I was tense and he was tense and he took advantage of me, when we had to canter he took off out of the arena completely and had a rodeo fit. I forgot the movement so stopped and started again. The rest was absolutely horrendous though. Shying away from the boards, cutting corners, fighting against the bit, crappy circles, crappy transitions, wrong canter lead, SHOCKING riding from me :L I got 55% which I thought was a miracle. I got a 7. :L Lots of 6's, 5's and a few 4's. I will put the test up as a raw file one day so you can laugh at my appalling riding, haha.
Show jumping! He did some brilliant jumps in the warm up, had a spazz at a filler though. Mine and Dougal's FIRST EVER COURSE for the sj. Oh yes!! He was actually amazing. We knocked 4 jumps, I think. He jumped all the bigger jumps beautifully, the little cross poles he decided weren't worth the effort, haha. Had one run out as well, it was the second jumping a double in the shade, we had no impulsion and it was my fault. But I was really, really chuffed with him as it was his first ever course and it was ROASTING. No bucks, also. (:
I thought he would be too tired to do the XC [which mostly consisted of jumpkins with a few small solid jumps, ditches and drops] but he absolutely flew! Took off with me at one point, one stirrup and was about this close to running over some poor couple trying to take videos in the middle of the course. :L Terrifying but SO MUCH FUN! He was absolutely amazing, flat out and jumping like a pro.
Chuffed to pieces with him. Kay, lots of bucking and he did get me off a couple of times but he really showed me his potential this weekend. Not only can he jump, he jumps extremely nicely and loves it. His flatwork has come on in leaps and bounds and he really is turning out to be a cracking pony. (:
