Watch the movie "Ed Wood" with Tim Burton's loving re-creation of how this movie was made.
It was financed by Don McCoy, a guy who had made a fortune in the meat business. As a condition of the financing, McCoy forced Ed to cast his (McCoy's) dyslexic son in the lead role.
