There's a muslim world? --'
I guess i live in a christian/atheist/agnostic/jew
ish/buddhist/hindu world...It's called planet Earth. -
It was an over reaction, christians dont get upset when others make fun of jesus, why because it doesnt effect our faith. Take a lesson :)

I find this vague mealy-mouthing and weak justification for the crimes of Islamofascists sickening and childish in their crass offensiveness. "Oh, yeah, we do bad stuff, but the Jews/Blacks/Christians/Whateve
rs do it too, so jog on." This line of argument seems to be that violence validates more violence. -
Islam is submission
and
Submission is Islam.

the advocates of free speech couldn't debate with ahmadinejad why he called the israeli regime a racist apartheid..rather they preferred to run away and later boast about it in their own little homes..

I really wish this were true . . . but I doubt that it is.

ah . . . a lack of religion is extremism because those people are "not fulfulling a basic human function"?
And that's one more reason why islam is ridiculous. That doesn't even make sense. It's an inversion of clear thinking. Nice try though.

these men have no appreciation for freedom. Religions are ideologies. Surely we must be allowed to ridicule any ideology, however clumsily, if we are to have any meaningful freedom of speech.

respect for all peoples religions is a good thing weather you believe it or not, but since drawing muhammed is a sin isnt it also a sin to destroy a huge budha (in afganistan) with artillery? because I saw no protests from muslims against that deed.what does Islam say about other peoples religious symbols? not to mention its economical & heritage value.and another question destroying chuches or converting them to mosks isnt it a sin? or it works only one way when people disrespect Islam
There are some serious distinctions between racism and religious criticism. Belonging to a race does not denote ideologies that one may subscribe to, and people do not choose what race they belong to. Supposing that one chooses follow a certain religion and the ideologies that said religion advocates, criticism of their beliefs should just as acceptable as criticising their political beliefs. They have every right to make counter arguments to such criticisms and defend their views with civility.

True, but within those paramaters should be some mutual respect... I feel like in todays society people are so ready to degrade one another's beliefs rather then open up meaningful dialogue, and thats where the problem lies...

Meaningful dialogue is the way forward; it is a hallmark of civility. So is mutual respect to the person, but not to their beliefs. People have rights, beliefs don't. Offending a person by criticising their beliefs is one of the costs of having a free society. Alternatively, limiting one's ability to express themselves for fear of offending another would pose a far greater cost to society. Freedom in the world of ideas will result in the best or most viable beliefs being the most popular.

hmmm, but our beliefs shape our actions and our personalities... therefore when you insult one's beliefs you insult them, and thats why there is such a senstivity attached...
