This is a collection of videos and pictures from a local river, the Saint Lucie River in Florida. Although it runs right through the middle of the City of Port Saint Lucie, parts of it are still somewhat natural with an abundance of wildlife, particularly on the section known as Evans Creek. It is a narrow river with dark often turbid water, with an upstream fresh water supply flowing into a saltwater estuary known as the Indian River. The banks are generally a tangled, jungle like growth of native and some exotic plants including Mangrove, Sabal Palm, Oak, Palmetto and of course the ever present exotic, Brazillian Pepper. This is also a good time of the year to look for the very small but beautiful Orchids which grow on the trunks of trees near the water. Unfortunately the Evans Creek area is on the list of potential routes for a proposed six lane expressway. There are routes which would take it around this, the very best of the Saint Lucie River Preserve, but the City is pushing for it to go here. Sadly few people appreciate this type of activity and so they would rather be able to get to the mall three minutes faster than have to concern themselves with saving this rare and endangered area.
