This is actually really scary. I think that the feeling of uncertainty, what with the incomprehensible graphics and freaking UNEXPLAINED HEADS randomly in a never ending pit, is one of the main factors of fear itself.

The action 52 games are easier to understand if you realize they were basically 'baby's first videogame' made by students from a local college. They were made by people who were only just starting to learn how to program for games.
