Simon,
Maybe you can try a couple of solar powered spotlights, I've used some inexpensive ones from Harbor Freight to give some dark areas around my yard a bit of light...I believe Wal Mart carries something similar...just an idea. Really appreciate all of the videos, I have learned a lot and have gotten a chuckle or two, nothing better than that combination.

So basically, there's this tremendous multitude of ppl, particularly the young who would do well to learn to look for style in either usable or decorative pottery are ignorant of it, then there's those who can't afford larger piece but can smaller ones but have no access to these pieces & are equally ignorant of quality. I can't bear thinking of the fact that 1day the tradition that gave my maternal family a last name may die out completely b/c, lack of funds to cont', interest, or ignorance. :(

I know it's not easy to accomplish; hwr, in Seagrove, NC, the potters all sort of plan their work around a specific time such as a kiln opening & it takes place basically in one area. Then there's galleries that carry various pieces, esp the nicer, higher-income types but also there's a niche for the smaller pieces like mugs & small bowls that would do well at any Mom&Pop store or grocer. Young ppl r clueless about pottery b/c many old-time potters are gone& next gen's like me can't start b/c $s

The biggest problem w/selling hand-made pottery today is 1: Cost then 2: Finding quality pottery (that you can afford)... Most young ppl today can't see spending the prices hand-made pottery commands regardless of the fact it's more beautiful, lasts longer, & will have much more value down the road, esp from generation to generation. I'd hurt someone over my grams' pieces & they've only made it 3 gens including her!

The rumors of my having fallen off the planet were greatly exaggerated; hwr, I've fought an upper respiratory infection for some 6mos plus a cold after 2wks well. I agree w/another poster about adding a little to ur sign w/a shaped vase w/spout & handle coming down on each side. Possibly add words like hand-made or wheel-turned beneath so they know it's not from a mold (explain that more in next post w/thoughts of my own).

@hobbypotter excuse all the typos...forgot to proof read this time ;)

Just some input if I may. The top of the sign needs "something"...style possibly. It still seems rather small and generic. Possibly a large shape/form such as of a cup/pitcher/vase that would silhouette what you selling. If people go by so fast and don't have a change to read the words they will most certainly see a picture and wonder "What's going on here". Like a said, just a thought! Thanks for sharing this Simon :D!

i don't recall if it's mentioned that your signage is painted on both sides...?
there are 'sign police' in my area and i don't think i could put one up without encouraging their wrath. i am travelling one hour one a week to a market and selling a few pots. i certainly like that stoneware travels well (it's part of my sales pitch...; ^)
thanks for this video, Simon!

@credenza1 e.g. POTTERY PLEASES.
It would help to put how many miles to your gallery on your sign. It looks like it's further than one would expect and people may give up and turn around.
