@Tazman91291 This is absolute bullshit. Unions advocate for MORE people on the job i.e. more ticket takers and security - not fewer. The fault for this tragedy lies with the promoter and the Coliseum management. I read the book "Are the Kids Alright?" about this tragedy and it never mentioned anything about unions.
@macandrewes It wasnt a stampede and Im not a moron. We were at the back of the crowd - about 16,000 people trying to get in through just three open doors. We had no idea that people were in trouble up front. It was really cold (December).
Riverfront Coliseum did not have enough doors open - you get a large push at the back on a small opening - its magnified pressure, the same principle that operates hydraulic cylinders in bulldozers/heavy equipment. People suffocated.
I know this may sound pretty dick but the blame lies on the idiots who pushed their way through and stepped on people over a rock concert. They behaved like animals and this is what happened. I feel for the families for their losses, but this kind of thing can only be prevented if people stop freaking out over superficial bullshit. The same stuff happens with this black friday shit. No reason for this to ever happen.
I was at a general admission concert in the 90s at an amusement park.No where near the scale of this.My friend and I ended up in the middle of the crowd in front of the stage and they pushed forward. We got bruised, pushed, hurt, scratched. We held each other and pushed for half an hour to get to the edge ofthe crowd.I will never go to another general admission concert. They should be illegal no matter the size or place. I can relate but it pales compared to this many people and size of venue.
@Tazman91291 Just to clarify, the Union would dispatch employees and determine coverage? I know it’s like that in some longshoreman’s unions as well as others.

I am definitely not trying to make light of this event. But that kid they interviewed really looks like Joe Walsh from The Eagles.
