"Hey! What happened to movements 4, 5 and 6?!" Well... we didn't do them, hahah. Because of time constraints on the sax player's recital we couldn't do every movement, so she picked the ones she liked the most.

Anyway, this is my personal favorite of them all (and there are only 7 movements).

Very challenging parts for the marimba that are great for building your technical chops, including the crazy lateral strokes from 2:50-3:10.

For the majority of this movement I used Nancy Zeltsman's NZ3B mallets (the green ones) which work wonders for fast stuff that needs to project. They're considerably lighter than most hard marimba mallets which is exactly what I needed.

Thank you for watching! Enjoy!

  • This is a great performance guys. I play sax, but I have to say I was more interested in the marimba part. Beautiful job!

  • thank you! at the time this was by far the hardest piece I'd ever played for marimba, but I was also happy with how it turned out.

    thanks again!

  • Nice job! What did you do to work up that ridiculous section at 2:50? I just performed this piece on my junior recital (video will be posted soon) and I never did get that section up to speed. There came a point where I could have done it faster, but I would have sacrificed a lot of tone on the marimba.

  • good job, im doing the first two movements with my friend for solo and ensemble, how long did this movment take you to learn on marimba?

  • where can I find this music?

  • @oxysean

i guess marimba one must have good quality bars on the bottom too, but adams is indeed one of the best when were talking about sound.

  • what recital it was?? junior, senior??? the sax part is not that tough...could be played waaay better...great marimba playin!! :))

  • i've never heard the bass octave of a 5 octave marimba sound that good. Is the Adams the only marimba with that much fundamental and sustain in the bass?

  • wow.. you really weren't kidding about the crazy lateral strokes... i have been playing marimba and what not for 7 years now but i have never heard or seen anything like this... congrats

  • Wow, this was really great. Great playing from both performers and good ensemble work. I'm currently composing a piece for Marimba and Soprano voice and this was inspiring.
