Late night flight in our Piper Cherokee from Hartford (HFD) to Raleigh (RDU) with a fuel stop at Atlantic City (ACY). We followed the Victor 1 airway down the east coast until Norfolk, Virginia and then headed west to Raleigh. We navigated around three large thunderstorms along the way--over New Jersey, Maryland/Delaware, and Virginia. We monitored the storms throughout the trip using NAXRAD radar downlink to our on-board Garmin 496 and requested amendments to our flight path (clearance) as necessary to stay clear of the storms.
I cut out some of the waiting time between lightning strikes so the video wouldn't be too boring... in real-time, this was recorded over about 5 minutes. This particular "show" went on for about 30-40 minutes. It was SO cool to see from the air, especially the cloud-to-cloud lightning!
