Ferdy Goode of Arbor Vitae, WI, is one of the premier builders of birch bark canoes in the world today. The example in this video is a model made with continuous decorative gunwale lashings of black spruce root and is truly a work of art. Its big brother (atop the vehicle) is a wonder to paddle. Thankfully there are those today who preserve the craft of the indigenous peoples of North America and continue to build canoes in the traditional manner. This canoe is constructed from bark of the white birch, planked and ribbed with cedar.
