@dannymaestro She was a good Tosca but not a great one - Nobody sing Tosca
like Tebaldi or Callas - she lacked chest tone and her voice is not very powerful.
It is a voice for La Boheme or maybe Madame Butterfly or La Rondine.

Gheorghiu definitely has not the voice for such a role. Good effort, but if the voice is insufficient, the result is poor.

In her defense... I remember that in one interview she explained her approach on Turandot: a 19 yo girl could really not "belt" out all those notes in full voice, hence the lyricism...
So, I think this is more of an exercise (included only in her Puccini album) than an intention to include the role in her current stage/concert repertoire.
Anyway, even if not that traditional, still one should appreciate Gheorghiu's technique, beauty of tone and knowledge of Puccini style.

absolutely gob-smacked ! what a breathtaking interpretation....I don't believe that Turandot HAS to be a certain way its so limiting to have so many preconceived requirements .....I would give anything to see her perform this ..It might not be like any other Turandot or anything like the so called Legitimate Turandots but the winner here I think is Puccini ...
