More than 1,000 people turned out in Quincy Sunday to remember James "Jamie" Cochrane, a Quincy police officer who died nearly two years ago in an off-duty motorcycle accident.

The memorial road race that once honored the late U.S. Marshal William Degan now honors Cochrane, who was 38 when he died.

Quincy police officers recalled Cochrane as someone who always helped others, even on his vacations. The officer died Sept. 10, 2006.
