Several years ago, around 1995, my wife (now ex,-wife and good friend) and I worked at the IAJE convention in San Antonio, TX. She got to drive Tommy and his wife to the airport at the end of the convention and commented on what a gracious guy he was. Well, I have listened to him over the years and could believe no less. Tommy was a great musician and is a lasting inspiration to all of us who call ourselves jazz pianists. Thanks Tommy!

After the concert, we stood on the dimly lit stage as Tommy Flanagan caressed the piano keys. Smoke swirled from the cigarette that dangled loosely from the corner of his mouth, a half inch of ash keeping time with the music. I closed my ey...es and let the lush sound wash over me, languishing in the beauty of this man’s genius. I embraced the essence of the moment into my heart and mind, and still, these many years later I only have to close my eyes to be in that moment again.

@banjoman2375 Some might argue that famous grunters like Oscar Peterson, Ray Brown, Paul Chambers, Eddie Palmieri and Keith Jarrett Are all very dignified. Those grunters are singing what they play to bring the music clearer to fruition.

What an incredible band, thank you so much for posting. I am actually a student of Kenny's and we were talking about this video and he said that the whole concert was taped, would you happen to have any of the other tunes?? I would love to see it.

I love how elegant and dignified he is. None of this making weird faces and grunting stuff. All of his energy is being channeled into the music.
We miss Tommy dearly
