Yes, "firing" Gillan was the worst thing that could happen to the band. When Blackmore was in 100% control, we all saw the outcome....Joe Lynn Turner & 'Slaves & Masters'.... Gillan's lyrics and voice is the soul of the classic Deep Purple.

absolutely right. Purple works well only with Ian on microphone. Who would have thought, that Blackmore and Lord are replaceable ? and it' s nothing against them, because they where important to that band .-)

I agree that Slaves is more a cross between DP and Rainbow but the song writing is superior to The Battle Rages LP. I still love them both anyway!!
