XR3 is a plug-in hybrid vehicle scheduled for manufacture by XR3 Motors LLC. It gets 125 mpg on its combustion engine and up to 225 mpg when the combustion and electric system are used in series. More info and plans showing how to build the vehicle yourself are available at: http://www.rqriley.com/xr3.htm

You can also join us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/rqrEntrs This page covers other DIY projects as well as the XR3. But developments on the XR3 will be posted there.

The XR3 is in the new Bruce Willis movie, Looper. It's used as a background vehicle in future scenes, along with the ZAP Alias. Looper is generally about hitmen who travel through time to do their dirty work. The XR3 will apear in a few scenes that take place in the future. Looper will be released in 2012.

  • There would be one in my future if there was a body kit. I can handle all other costruction but refuse to work foam and fiberglass..I know my limitations.

  • @amramjose We're working on kits. If you'd like to be on a list to receive info, send a note requesting to be added to the list to rqriley@cox.net

  • Anyone who's familiar with my work will know that I've always operated outside mainstream automotive thinking. And none of these ideas are the ultimate solution. In my book, I go father out on the limb & suggest that unbridled personal mobility (end of Chapter Two) could itself become outmoded. Why waste time and energy transporting your body when it's your mind that produces the most meaningful results. And your mental presence can be transported over the Internet almost for free.

  • So, when the engine is out of fuel and electricity, I assume you plug it in somewhere to charge it like most electric cars. So where exactly does the electricity from the plugs come from? OH YEAH! Large Industrious factories! So what problem does this solve exactly? Nothing. It burns diesel AND requires yet more fossil fuels for power.

  • @Jakezxz1 When the engine uses all the fuel onboard, then you buy more fuel. And when the batteries run down you recharge them efficiently from a wall plug. But the vehicle will drive on diesel power alone. Electrical energy comes from a variety of sources, depending on the country. Vehicles like the XR3 could significantly reduce oil dependence & CO2. But let's hear your ideas on solutions. Power system technologies are still in their infancy, and social and mindset ideas are valid too.

  • How much is this car worth?

  • @ito934 @Jakezxz1 It solves TRAFFIC problems! I live in a city were traffic is SO heavy! and we are so stupid to not realize that most people go alone driving a FIVE passengers "giant" car. I Found this car while searching for a "personal vehicle" (1 passanger). That way there would be way more space to drive and traffic would be over. Personal cars should be used in cities with traffic problems, and if you go alone driving a 5 persons car you should be fined and that's it, traffic is over.

  • Looks good except for the hideously ugly engine cover on the front. Reminds me of an elephant seal's nose.

  • Is there a turnkey? If so does it have a more refined body (ie less of the garage assembled looking rear-end and interior)? I would love something like this but I also don't want it to look like it was knocked together with MDF.

  • @Jakezxz1 - Did you know light bulbs make light? Go away troll...

  • Not quite the same as the XR3s I have but very nice nonetheless.
