Zambia Airways was liquidated in November 1994. The airline began making huge losses after the then newly elected MMD (Movement for Multi-Party Democracy) government stated that the airline would be responsible for its own finances. That plus debts. A bail out/rescue plan was in place but was never implemented. Although they ha 7 planes, the airline was still regarded as world class and had a good reputation for service delivery and safety.

Just a little info n the ATR-42-320, The aircraft first flew in 1987. Zambia Airways (QZ) got theirs in 1989. And as far as Kenya Airways go's Zambia Airways had never had any aircraft drop out of the sky like Kenya did and kill people ;) (that's for my friend dazz787) ;)

Dear dazz787, as you can see above, the airlines was liquidated by the government. Just a little misstake there, it wasn't in 2004, it was in 1994 when it closed. The ATR aircraft where taken up brand new from the factory in France when they first came out. And yes Kenya Airways has always been doing better than most African airlines as they are a big airline unlike Zambia Airways which used to be a very small airline. All in all they had 7 planes only. :)

This was Zambia's national airline up to 2004 when the airline was liquidated by the government of Zambia. No restrictions there, such as the ones imposed by the EEC on Olympic Airlines. It can happen to any airlines, today they fly, tomorrow they cry.
