http://www.ukuleletricks.com/ukulele-lessons/ - In this lesson, we're going to take a look at the most crucial and important aspects behind creating your own strumming patterns. We'll be learning a couple of different strumming patterns, and you'll be able to apply all this stuff in a lot of different ways to other songs.

  • You were very helpful to me! I am new to playing and never played an instrument before. Your instruction is easy to follow...thanks for posting!

    Kind regards, Tasha

  • @love2wine you are quite welcome! I'm glad this was helpful to you!

  • By the way, I love your easy demeanor. So non-intimidating for us beginners! Great video.

  • @yjiangcity Awesome! So glad to hear this.

  • I have spent so much time practicing chords that my strumming is awful. I get a good rhythm going and as soon as I change chords, the rhythm goes out the window. Will I eventually be able to strum a rhythm without thinking about it so much? I practice every single day and I still have to think about what my strumming hand is doing. Pathetic.

  • @yjiangcity You will eventually! :) Don't be too down on yourself. You sound completely normal. Your consistent practice will continue to pay off. Continue to spend a lot of time practicing your finger positions as well without strumming so you can easily switch your fingers between chords. Your body needs time to build muscle memory. Also if you are getting hung up on chord changes, don't hesitate to slow down your tempo and then work your way up. Keep up the good work... it'll come! :)

  • @msellakate finding the right rhythm for the song is all about finding the count or the tempo of the song along with it's time signature (e.g. is it counted in four, three, or six?). If you can find the count for the song or are able to tap your foot along, you can begin to find or create a strumming pattern that locks into that count or timing.

  • Thank you so much for this video, I take an Ukulele class at my school and I wanted to learn some new ways to strum, and also Ukulele is pronounced like Ooh-ku-leh-leh, I live on Oahu and its surpisingly difficult to find a teacher as good as you or mine, so thank you. :D

  • It helps a lot!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much!

Before watching this video I got really confused with strumming :(

  • You're amazing but WHY DO YOU SPEAK SO SOFTLY :(

  • I have a question about what you strum with, do you strum with your finger your thumb?

  • I'm seeing the "tropical" instrument, Ukulele, and sleds in the background. Interesting contrast. But very helpful video, thanks a lot

  • You are such a positive and perfectly paced instructor for beginners! Thank you for your simple explanations including the verbal, rhythmic and visuals. Looking forward to watching the next in your series!
