If you are going to spend 200 dollars for a microphone equipment, you might as well buy the H2 handy recorder.

great advice! what do you think about XLR inputs and recording sound through the camera via Boom Mic? (Canon XHA1)

Don't have experience with that particular equipment, but if you can record the audio and video together, it is definitely easier later.
