Oh yeah, the blue crabs are back. A beautiful day with the smell of crabs cooking in the air sipping a cold one is all you need. I poked my camera in for a good view and one fiesty guy made a couple good grabs for it. I was ready and yanked back. I guess I did learn something from them getting my hand years ago. My plan is now to eat them before they try to eat me. Hey, did you know crabs hate the smell of Old Bay?

  • why not chuck them in a bucket of ice for 20 minutes before you cook them and they will shut down and not die in pain.

  • @superdonyoungy You are not suppose to cook dead crabs. If you ice them, they all look dead. You want them alive and squirming when the hit the steamers. I want you to know that those crabs did not die in vain, they were delicious.

  • @vbdenny - Yes, you shouldn't cook dead crabs, but you also shouldn't have any dead crabs if you take care of them properly. You should NEVER put your crabs in a bucket of water, that is the quickest way to kill them. They can get all the oxygen they need to live out of the air as long as they are kept moist. We put them in wooden bushel containers and dump a bit of water over them every hour or so. Keep the container out of the sun. What you did was very wasteful and they did die in vain.

  • @AceLockCo we keep them in baskets and they aren't around that long. He bought the carbs from a local guy that morning and it isn't unusaul to have a few that have died.

  • excellent gastronomy!!!.... denny.

They have very good presence, but my doctor would say too much uric acid.

  • I don't have any medical issues but I only eat them maybe once a year. Picking crabs is pretty much a social event where you sip beer, talk and pick.

  • @vbdenny - Gotcha, hopefully others can use that info.

  • @superdonyoungy dude, I make THE BEST chili mud crabs, I am sure they were delicious, but 20 minutes in an ice bucket is a nicer way to treat them!.

  • Yikes! I like fish, but no crabs for me :)

  • sorry about causing the hunger, lol. Yeah I should have put a disclosure to only watch when you are full.
