At the time of Japan's surrender USS Missouri was painted in what was called "Measure 22" camouflage scheme. The side of the hull was a navy blue up to the deck level, the vertical surfaces were a light grey, and all horizontal surfaces (including the teak decks and turret tops) were "deck blue" (basically a blue/grey color). The model shown here shows a lighter color on the decks than was actually the case.
Its a model guys i see it every day at that ship!! The decks were painted because of the moonlight it would make the deck glow and planes flying overhead would see the wooden outline of a ship!!
It does turn gray, but it wouldn't have done so in the three years--under constant maintenance--from the ships construction to the surrender day. It's also the deck's texture that is lacking. Bad model.

Will have to visit the sister ship, Iowa Class, USS New Jersey in Camden NJ to see about that deck color.

That's how the deck looked like during the Japanese surrender. Teak turns silvery gray as it ages under the sun.

It's ashame the model used on the Missouri tour doesn't accurately represent the teak deck. It looks like one gray mess in its current state.
