@jackk2100 --- dont think so, i play the piece, and believe i understand what he is traying to do,... but there is a fine line between genius and DISTORTION,... music is the art of balance,... and beethoven certainly achieved it to a higher degree than perhaps anyone else,... the last thing beethoven needs is a performance that is not balanced, and certainly not in his last sonata,...
complete lack of understanding of the piece,... the arietta, unfortunately he makes it sound like an exercise,... especially the last variations,... Pogorelich's incredible technical/digital talent with complete lack of musical/spiritual understanding....
Thank you so much for posting this. I've loved this piece for years and have never seen Pogorelich play it, although I've had the recording for a long time.
And futhermore (see last comment):
Any music is derived from this piece: classic, jazz, rock, pop, hiphop, etc.

For my money Pogorelich's interpretation of this piece is the highpoint in musical history.
I unfortunately lost my grandmothers recording, where Pogo is even better than here.
Alternative highpoints include among others Perlman playing Bach's chaconne and Svjatoslav Richter playing Rach 3 (or almost any Rachmaninov)

Though he manipulates the tempo too much here, the opening is remarkably expressive and technically well done.

I like the (very slow) tempo in the second mouvement
