Hi my name is Jamie Sorrells i made this video who were all affected wit Colins death including me enjoy...NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- An 18-year-old Richland High senior was killed and another student was seriously injured Tuesday in a six-vehicle crash that occurred as they were returning to their home campuses after taking classes at a district career center.
Colin Parks, 18, of North Richland Hills died at North Hills Hospital, police said. He was the driver of a white Mitsubishi that was stopped at a traffic light on Mid-Cities Boulevard at Davis Boulevard about 10:30 a.m.
A vehicle described as a Lincoln failed to stop at the light and smashed into the Mitsubishi and a box truck, North Richland Hills investigator Keith Bauman said Tuesday. The truck was driven into the intersection and collided with an 18-wheeler, Bauman said.
The driver of the Lincoln, along with Parks and his passenger, were taken to hospitals, police said. A fourth person also was taken to a hospital.
The passenger, a Birdville High School senior, was taken by helicopter ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. His condition was not available.
Five other students were in two other vehicles involved in the crash, but were not seriously injured, school officials said.
Students from all three Birdville school district high schools take business and career classes at Birdville's Center of Technology and Advanced Learning in North Richland Hills.
The wreck happened about halfway between the center and Birdville High, said Mark Thomas, a school district spokesman.
Parks planned to drop his passenger off at Birdville and then return to Richland High School.
On Tuesday, stunned friends and relatives gathered at the home of Parks' mother in North Richland Hills, hugging and crying. Several described Parks as a good kid and a blessing to their family.
Parks was expecting a baby in January with his girlfriend, said Steven Shafer, Parks' stepfather.
After graduation in May, Parks planned a career as an electrician, Shafer said.
"He had good hand-eye coordination, the best of any kid I've ever seen," he said.
A "pool shark," Parks could best adults at the game, relatives said.
Parks was an avid fisherman who enjoyed all watersports and would join friends and family on outings to area lakes, particularly Possum Kingdom, Ray Roberts and Lewisville.
Shafer said he gave Parks his first dirt bike, a prized possession: "If he could, he'd have slept with it."
By midafternoon, at least two Facebook pages had been created in Parks' memory.
This is the second car crash this year in Tarrant County where a high school student has died during school hours.
