In Indonesia a political row has flared over the taboo topic of polygamy, after Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was accused of being secretly married.

Despite being the world's largest Muslim nation, polygamy is forbidden by law for government officials.

What is sick is having more than one wife. What if tables were turned and women wanted to have 4 husbands?

Would you like to be a "husband" along with a few other men and one woman?

It makes as much sense, but it is all bad.

The man who has more than one woman (for havin more than one wife is illegal and immoral) commits adultery And he then forces the other women to commit adultery.

It is sad. One man for one woman. That is enough!

polygamy is a choice and thers no need to have a club its accepted in islamic societies. itsessential for society to absorb large number of widows and those that can't have children.

i am not aginst polygamy i am for it. Byut so long its REGISTEREd as normal marriage hence all parties know whats the deal and if first wife doesnot like it can get a divorce ! VERY IMPORTANT

I believe you don't need to be the victim of polygamy like those unfortunate women n children all over the world to realize that polygamy is useless. it's ur right to agree with POLYGAMY. plz practice it with ur 1000 camels in ur desert. Islam is the enlightement for men n women equally....it's teaching me that marriage must be fulfilled by alots of love n happiness. the big question is Who will get alots of happiness n love in poligamy n who will not ? this is really againts the truth of islam itself. we don't need to be PHD students to understand this logic,right? only moslems who got pure heart (not get blinded by their uncontrollable sexual desire) will.

OK.. so u want to equate urself to prophet. Why don't u get wahyu for us? Why don't u marry 9 wives because u want to be just like him? Why don't u marry someone 15 years older than u? Why don't u be the imam for every solah at ur local masjid because u want to be just like Muhammad pbuh? Why don't u perform some mukjizat for us?

then dont pray because if you pray you will equate yourself to the prophet as he prayed. also dont fast or give any charity or do anything good because you will equate yourself to him. Don't make assumption. What I mean is, who are we to compare ourselves to prophet Muhammad? Yup, we're mortal just like he is.. but he is an ordinary man - who's chosen by Allah to guide the human-being, right from his years until the doomsday! So can u imagine how special and privileged he is? Why must people who commit polygamy said - "I do this because our prophet also did it" - what a shame! In that case, we're equating us with him - which is far more just. So to us, stick to monogamy, then.
