Although Brando kind of sounds a little like a crazy person based on that story, it actually seems like a clever attempt at doing as little work as possible. Obviously, Jor-El didn't have to look like a bagel; he could have been a glowing light or whatever, and then Brando would have just had to record his voice. Also, it's logical to assume that aliens would not necessarily resemble humans. Of course, I'm glad they never seriously considered his suggestion.
