In this video I show a quick and general experiment that gives us a hint on how Inertia plays a role in our life.

  • @cpkiilunen There will be no difference, if you add of remove CDs to increase/decrease the thickness*** of the object.The moment of inertia is specified with respect to a chosen axis of rotation so moment of Inertia of both solid disc and solid cylinder is same (given as I=(mr^2)/2) because no matter how long the object is, the mass distribution from the rotating axis is same in both cases.

  • What kind of time difference would you see if you only took about half of the CD's off the axle? I'm curious on this because I've never seen that type of rotational inertia experiment. It seems like they all make a huge change in the geometry like going from a solid to a hollow weight or like this where you go from big diameter heavy to small diameter light.
