iPhone 3GS battery exploded! Kinda... Part 1

So I was charging my 3GS (old phone) because it was dead (I use it mostly for music now that I have a 4S when I don't want to kill its battery) and I go to pick it up and noticed the screen was bowed slightly in the middle, so I examined it a little more and then all of a sudden, the top of the screen popped up (scared the s**t out of me) and yeah... I took it apart to see what happened.
My bad for not using proper punctuation, I'm tired... And lazy...

Hi, this happened to me exactly while I was charging the 4gs. I was so scare and glad that it just expended and cracked the case and didn't catch fire. Can you share with me how to talk to ? I don't know if they will handle my care since it was out of warrenty

I have the same issue. After 2 years of using my iPhone 3Gs. Got back from my vacation just to find out my iPhone, that I left on the desk for a month, quite a bit chubbier that it is supposed to. Weird, my 1st generation iPhone still serves me right for 4+ years now despite rather long spans(up to 2-3 months) of time being completely drained...

Ok so this happened to me yesterday I was on the phone while it was on charge and boom.

I rang apple got on to the most senior manager.

After sending him some photo's within 30 mins i get ring back to explain they would swap it out even though it was out of Guarantee he asked if I could go to a store to exchange it and he would authorise it..

I asked for iphone 4.. He said yes after a six minute being on hold while he did paper work he tells me 4s is on its way Apple 2nd To None on customer

Don't ever let a Li-ion Battery discharge to empty, it would ruin the cells and make it very unstable when you charge it again after an extended period of time.

well I was talking to Amanda from Apple today and she explained it is common to have the battery's explode if they are not changed every two years, mine became hot and overheated while it was in my pocket, so how is that for a sorry a** design, guess what she recommended, I sign a three year contract with ATT for a new Iphone , like they say it don't get any better then that,, class action suite anyone???
