This satirical little frottola by Josquin is believed to be a gentle reminder to his patron Galeazzo Sforza that his musicians need paying. Josquin may be punning on the name of a fellow impecunious musician (Frillo) by calling him a cricket (Grillo). This performance is by the dwsChorale (David Solomons)

  • Duly delivered :-)

  • Would this station happen to be available online as well?

  • @MoaiMaea I suppose you would have to ask Epona1979. I don't know about it.

  • it's only easy and lame if you sing it slow and out of tune.

  • This gets stuck in my head all the time.

    I hate it.

    Such a catchy little doo-wop.

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • @JinxJazz

Quite true! The church was mostly to blame for the dislike of any instruments in early music because they wanted to keep it old school and stick with Gregorian chant and monophonic works in general. This kind of put a hamper on pieces that included instruments. Also, musical instruments were really quite expensive back then and only for those in the upper class.

  • Thumbs up if you heard this in Robert Greenberg's lectures!!

  • This is in Civ Iv

  • I did, did I not? Or were you sent a message saying I replied to one of your comments?
