I've never claimed to be a musician. I'd love to be, so I guess that would make me a wannabe musician.
The Strumstick is perfect for a guy like me, simple to pick up, fun to play, and even though I might have a bad note here and there, it still sounds decent. Here's a little ditty I threw together this afternoon.
no if you got a job stick to it buddy

Is the Strumstick an instrument? I say YES.
Why? Because it makes music and is playable by a person. ;)
Who knows, In 40 years it might be common place.
People thought that things like the Sax and Drum Kit where not real instruments at first and see how common those have become.
I'm sure people looked at the first Piano as just a modified harpsichord.
So yeah, it is an Instrument by all means.
Will it take off or be forgotten? Time will tell. :)
Thanks!

I don't really agree that it shouldn't be considered a "Legitimate" instrument. It is what it IS. I bet if you put this in the hands of Green Day or some such person, they would make it SING! Compare this video with Bob McNally's. SEE? I'm a "legit" performer on Irish flute/bodhran/djembe/pennywhistle/some fiddle- but can't play guitar! I think this instrument would add a nice accompaniment.

the strumstick is designed for people who cant play a legitimate instrument. i'm not saying anything negative about the strumstick though.

When you started playing it sounded like 'Schitzophrenia' by Sonic Youth. I wonder how versatile this instrument is for playing many different songs? I think, with some slight adjustments and thought, you could play virtually any tune.
