  • Choppers used to be a regular siting on the Gedling Colliery trains in the 1970's and the early 1980's. But one very early morning the staff at Toton TMD decided to put a class 56 on loose MGR's empty, the driver was not very good at smooth starts and a ripple of banging buffers woke nearly everyone in Gedling !!

  • I guess they will be revised/modernised, in their livetimes. Just as any other long serving locomotive or trainset.

  • Horribly enough the class 66 engine dates back to the 1940's, winton engine co, then GM 567, 645, now 701, i think. I just wish the new uns had character.

One thing for sure, 66's wont be here in 50 years time, the electronics will have fuked up!

  • I understand this bloke, and, love 20's.

like new cars - faster, better on fuel etc, but no soul! 20's have a soul, will last longer than modern shite, but obvoiusl wont pull as well as some computer controlled thing. sorry for the blasphemy!

  • So shit the design is still going after 50 years!

    1000hp English Electric, decent engines!

  • yeh they should send the ying yings back the british loco was better

  • Anyone know anything about a pair of choppers to skeggy??

I heard off a reliable source theres going to be a train running to celebrate the 50th aniversary... Is it DRS or HNRC?

  • tell you what, you can have some 3300hp class 66s and we shall have the 20s back for working mainline traffic!!

  • i work 4 corus and we have just got 2 on rental there shit 4 the job so send um back and buy sum new uns

  • Send them back where? They're british and are 50 years old!!
