The original Natick Mall in Natick, MA just as demolition was beginning in June, 1993. Sorry about the sometimes goofy commentary.

Oddly, for all the years we went to the NM, I never once ate there (that I can remember, at least).

It was so much more relaxing to shop route 9 back then. It is a feeling that most people now have either forgotton or will never know.

i remember when the mall was built

WOW, the flames at yorks, the orange julius st. louis kraut hot dog. the snoopy store. used to go into wilsons leather and drool over the 500 dollar michael jackson red zipper jacket, i saw doug fluties heisman trophy on display there. i also once hid from my mother inside a clothing rack in sears. loved the smaller coin fountain in the back of the mall that looked like it was outside... some good gi joe battles were had there.

I have very fond memories of the old Natick Mall. As a kid, I'd go to York Steak House with my brother, mother and grandmother. Funny how the cafeteria style seemed so enjoyable at the time. I also remember the great Christmas displays they'd put in place where the fountain was, usually it was a really elaborate electric train setup, with Christmas village scenes etc. I got my Boy Scout uniform and supplies from a Boy Scout outlet, at one end of the mall. Good memories.

I worked at the Natick Mall Food Court on and off from 1983 too when I joined the Navy. I was the Night supervisor of the food court cleaners. Joe Pocher, Joe Steele, Eric Mackey, Gary "US" Burns, Mark Tomasetti, Rob Steele, Dan and a bunch more worked for the mall. Charlie, Scott and Marty worked for Bill at Charlie Cheng, All thr girls at Salad and, Orange Julius, John(who also had DR Binder as his orthodontist) at PaPa Ginos. I was the one with the different color Converse High Tops! Great!

Thanks for this historical video recording. The old Natick Mall was the fist mall I ever visted. Remember Spencer's Gifts? It was on the same side of the mall as York Steak House, a few stores up towards Filene's. And what about the old Carling brewery and Child World? Caldor's and Ken's Steak House? Wow, all those ancient memories are flooding back. Thanks again!

I remember when it was just a little stand near the fountain, then they made it bigger and enclosed it.

I remember where you are talking about.. the stairs that led to the offices across from the snack bar in Sears. Do you remember Barber Brothers Florist, right next to the fountain? I beleive that is where they started, now they have the huge place in West Natick.

Ahh..York steakhouse. I remember that place fondly. I loved their steak fries as a kid. It was cafeteria style with a soup and salad bar in the middle for all your extras, once you got your steak/burger or whatever from the line. I would go back.
