So what color glaze did you use.... and when do you actually open the kiln to get them into the trashcan? is it still 1750 degrees? That sounds dangerous, haha.

Very nice video RoseMary,
I like your technique some what better than the one in the back of the Mud to Music book.
Do you ever put other holes in them to make more tones?
Very clean, pleasingly simple work, with beautiful glazes, awsome!
Do you sell your whistles on a web-site, where I could go see more of them?
Thank you very much!
DebraRay
Do your whistles smell or taste like smoke?

I used a raku glaze called 8 and 2 Copper:
Gerstley Borate 80
Nepheline Syenite 20
Copper Carbonate 3
When the temperature reaches 1750 and the glazes are shiny, you turn off the kiln and immediately use your raku tongs to get the basket into the trash can. Yes it's hot! I have a heat shield for my face and long gloves to protect my arms. It's a little dangerous, yes, but lots of fun! Thanks so much for your interest! Rose Mary

Thanks again for your comments. The smoke smell goes away from raku pieces very quickly. Yes, I have made ocarinas with holes, as well as cute little animal whistles. I hope you have a chance to try making a few. Remember that the airstream has to meet the beveled edge in order to work. I don't sell on websites, only at local galleries and art sales.
